This morning I went diving in the Put van Ekeren, and from the moment I slipped underwater it felt like I was entering a calm, almost magical world. The visibility was surprisingly good, clear enough to really enjoy everything moving around me.
Around 7 meters, I passed through the thermocline — that thin misty layer where you feel the temperature drop within a single meter. It’s always a special moment, like swimming through an invisible doorway into a different part of the lake.
I stayed down for about 72 minutes. At the surface the water was a comfortable 20°C, but once I reached 16 meters, the temperature dropped to 9°C, a refreshing chill that wakes you up instantly.
During the dive I came across large schools of fish gliding past, and spotted a few small lobsters exploring their surroundings. And the highlight: I managed to find the car wreck again. Always fun to rediscover that familiar landmark on the bottom.
A dive full of contrasts, life, and small discoveries. Exactly the kind of morning that reminds me why I love doing this.
